# Not Detecting Inserted Cards

1. **Power Off the Terminal** \
   Hold down the red X button until the device turns off.
2. **Mark for Configuration Update** \
   Log in to Webcom and mark the terminal for a default [configuration update](/webcom-tms/terminals/configuration-update.md).
3. **Clean the Chip Reader**
   * Take a card (preferably a debit/credit card with raised numbers).&#x20;
   * Insert the card upside down and back to front, so the chip is not in the reader.&#x20;
   * Remove and insert the card 10 times, wiggling it each time to dislodge dirt inside the reader.<br>
4. **Power On the Terminal** \
   Hold down the green button until the device turns back on.
5. **Perform a Test Transaction** \
   Try a test transaction to confirm the chip reader is working.
6. **If Still Not Working** \
   Please [Contact Support](https://my.verifone.com/s/supportbyemail) to log a replacement terminal, as the chip reader may be damaged.
